Abstract

Polar codes have emerged as a pivotal technology in the evolution of next-generation wireless communication networks, particularly in 5G systems. Since their introduction, these codes have demonstrated exceptional error correction capabilities, achieving near-capacity performance across various block lengths and coding rates. This paper presents a comprehensive performance analysis of polar codes, focusing on their application in control channels within the 5G framework as specified by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). We delve into the encoding and decoding processes, examining metrics such as Bit Error Rate (BER) and Frame Error Rate (FER) under different conditions. Our findings indicate that polar codes not only outperform traditional coding methods but also offer significant advantages in terms of implementation complexity and latency. Furthermore, we discuss the design considerations that led to the adoption of polar codes for control channels, highlighting their flexibility and efficiency in managing varying code rates. The results underscore the critical role of polar codes in enhancing communication reliability and throughput in future wireless networks
